AGUIYI IRONSI PROFILE


First military ruler in Nigeria. He became the head of the military government and commander in chief of the armed forces in 1966 following a coup d’etat against the late sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa government in 1966 by the late major Kaduna Nzeogwu group. The late major general Ironsi group had countered the Nzeogwu coup being loyal to the civilian government which was under threat.
